BA Unit 1 Brief

BA Unit 1 Brief

In this unit I will be working on a art test for a indie game company called FireSprite . For this studio I am tasked to crate 3 crates for their upcoming game called the Persistence. I will need to make these crate with just 1500 tris so it will be a challenge.

The unit will cover the following:
  • Demonstrate a systematic approach to the understanding and analysis of 3D assets.
  • Recognise appropriate solutions to 3D development problems and apply industry practice to solve them.
  • Apply artistic understanding to new assets and use of different 2D mapping solutions.
  • Reflect on industry practice and design briefs.
  • Effectively apply various technological solutions to generate advanced 3D models in the most appropriate manner

Statement of Intent

The main goal of this unit is to create three crates for a game company. They need to follow the sketch concepts they have given me and need to be in the 1500 poly count. All three crates will be made and animated in Maya, a 3D software designed for model creation and animation. These create will be hard surfaced, meaning they will follow a certain UV layout. Numerous techniques, such as extrusion, bevels, bridges, mirrors, vertex alignment and edge loops will be used to make these model to the specifications of the game company.

The texturing process will be done in Substance Painter. This is an industry standard software, one that 85% of game companies use. I will bake all of my textures here and add in some height, gunge and alpha decals to match to the sketch crates style. All of the custom alpha details will be done by myself.

The Unreal Engine will also be used to show off the models function in the live game. It is also here, that I can apply post-processing techniques and blueprint design to further improve the crates visual appeal.
